Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having a long term lubrication effect and realizing excellent running speed and durability by heightening adhesion stability between a protective film and a lubricant. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is provided with a nonmagnetic supporting body 2, a magnetic layer 3 formed thereon and the protective film 4 of which the surface is treated under atmosphere of inert gas plasma formed on the magnetic layer 3 and retains a lubricant 5 containing an ester compound expressed by a general formula R COOCH2 -Rf-CH2 OCOR or R OOC-Rf'-COOR and a perfluorocarboxylic acid ester expressed by a general formula Cn F2n+1 - COOR on the protective layer 4.
