Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and a patterning roller used therefor capable of easily corresponding to architectural design efficiency of a diversified piece to be coated. SOLUTION: The coating method for drawing the pattern on an undried coated film within a range of thickness 0.5 to 5.0 mm formed of a coating material is so constituted that the patterning roller 11 having a plurality of projected stripes 12 is used for drawing patterns and that the projected stripes of the patterning roller are only brought into contact with the undried coated film. A patterning roller body 13 is formed in a cylindrical shape, the projected stripes 12 formed on the surface of the roller have a plurality of parallel rows, and the width of each of the projected stripes is within a range of 0.3 mm to 10.0 mm.
