Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery of superior high-rate discharge properties and having a long cycle life, by providing with a separator containing extra fine fiber with high fiber strength, even if the fiber diameter is small and having a high strength and high holding ability of an electrolyte. SOLUTION: The separator made of polyolefin resin fiber interposed between a positive electrode and a negative electrode contains 10 wt.% or more, for weight of the separator, of the extra fine fiber with average fiber diameter of 0.5-2.0 μm and fiber strength of 0.02 N/d(denier) or higher. Since, when the extra fine fiber with the fiber strength of 0.02 N/d(denier) or higher is contained by 10 wt.% or higher, strength of the separator increases, even if using fiber with average fiber diameter of 0.5-2.0 μm, as well as compactibility of the separator increases, so that it can be prevented that fragments or powder originated from cracks or burrs of the electrodes or breaking or damaging of active materials which pass through the separator and the occurrence of internal short-circuiting can be prevented.
