PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently utilize the recordable capacity of each recording medium by avoiding data omission without overlappingly recording a portion of continuous data on each recording and reproducing device and realizing seamless reproduction even in the case of recording the data, extending over a plurality of recording and reproducing devices on which a recording medium is mounted. SOLUTION: When the recordable capacity reaches a prescribed value during stream recording to a recording medium 104a, streams are started to be parallelly stored in a buffer memory 106b. After the point of time of finishing recording the streams to the recording medium 104a, the streams are transferred to a recording medium 104b to be recorded from the streams stored in the buffer memory 106b at the point of time while continuously storing streams in the buffer memory 106b.
