Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery having good discharging properties and cycle life by offering an activation method capable of improving high- rate discharging without reducing the cycle life. SOLUTION: The alkaline storage battery comprises a negative electrode containing hydrogen occlusion alloy having an average particle diameter of 50-120 μm and a compositional formula represented by Mma Nib Coc Ald Mne (wherein c/a is 0.5 or higher), a positive electrode and an alkaline electrolyte liquid. The alkaline storage battery comprises an activation step, in which the first charging and discharging after the alkaline storage battery is assembled is carried out such that 60% or higher of the battery volume is charged at the charging rate of at least 0.6 It or higher relative to the volume of the negative electrode and then discharged. The alloy particles hiving a small average particle diameter and a large reaction surface area are produced in the activation step, as well as numbers of cracks are formed in the alloy particles. Numbers of active surface appear in the hydrogen occlusion alloy particles, and the reduction of the discharging characteristics can be suppressed even when the high rate discharging is carried out. |
