Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal decomposition method whereby the equipment cost or the running cost can be reduced by downsizing a thermal decomposition vessel or an attached heating apparatus. SOLUTION: This thermal decomposition method uses a thermal decomposition vessel 1 containing a plastic waste 3 and a heating means 2 for thermally decomposing the waste and recovers an oil cooling a thermal decomposition gas generated in the thermal decomposition vessel. The thermal decomposition is conducted by making the area of the surface of a reaction liquid larger than the cross section in the depth direction of the liquid. The thermal decomposition vessel may be a tightly closed shallow container having a large bottom area.
