FLOCCULANT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flocculant having a high rate of flocculation and less harmful to the environment by using a material obtained by sticking powder of an organic polymer flocculant to calcium chloride powder. SOLUTION: A powdery material obtained by sticking powder of an organic polymer flocculant having a smaller average particle diameter than calcium chloride powder to the surface of the calcium chloride powder is used as a principal flocculant and this principal flocculant is mixed with powder of a flock forming auxiliary and powder of a neutralizing agent to produce the objective flocculant. Since each of the calcium chloride powder and the powder of the organic polymer flocculant is not uniform in particle diameter, the produced flocculant shows its flocculating effect immediately after putting and the effect is sustained for a relatively long time. The flocculant forms flocks in a very short time as compared with a conventional flocculant and a suspension is rapidly clarified.
