Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a carbonaceous material to be able to generate efficiently single-layered carbon nanotube with high purity. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for producing the carbonaceous material is equipped with a tube reactor 11 and a gas feeding part. An anode 13 and a cathode 14 composing an arc discharge part and a catcher 23 to catch the generated carbonaceous material are set in the tube reactor 11. An RF heater 24 is set at the position where the catcher 23 is set and at the periphery of the tube reactor 11. On the method for producing the carbonaceous material, the carbonaceous material generated at the arc discharge part is transferred to the catcher 23 by a gas fed from the gas feeding part to the tube reactor 11 and heat-treated by the RF heater 24 without being exposed with atmospheric air in the catcher 23. The removal of impurities and the growth of the single- layered carbon nanotube are accelerated.
