EDGE DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge detector which can be improved in resolution when the detector performs edge detection without raising the frequency of an edge detecting clock with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: This edge detector generates an edge position signal indicating the phase between the edge detecting signal and an original signal correspondingly to an edge detecting signal, by generating a signal which is delayed or advanced by the 1/n period of the edge detecting clock by means of a variable delay circuit 5 with respect to an binarized original signal obtained through a comparator 1 based on the original signal, and detecting the edge of the signal by means of an edge detecting circuit 2.
