Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for evaluating biological specimen capable of efficiently extracting numerical value data high in objectivity from the image of a biological specimen. SOLUTION: In the method for evaluating the biological specimen by extracting numerical value data from image data obtained by picking up the image of the state of biological specimen housed in a microplate 7 by a camera 13, it is judged whether the measuring area set as a numerical value data extracting target area in the image to be evaluated coincides with a prior condition preset as a condition capable of properly extracting numerical value data and, in the case of the coincidence with the prior condition, the measuring area is set to a target to perform a numeration processing program 19c and, in the case of the non-coincidence with the prior condition, the microplate 7 is moved by a table moving mechanism 11 to alter the measuring area. By this constitution, numerical value data high in objectivity can be efficiently extracted only from a proper target.
