Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light emitting element emitting light of small spot size in single mode and being employed as a light source for optical fiber communication or electrophotography or as a micro light source in virtual reality. SOLUTION: The surface light emitting element has a semiconductor layer comprising an n-type nitride semiconductor layer, an emission layer and a p-type nitride semiconductor layer wherein the semiconductor layer has a cavity extending from the emission layer to the n-type nitride semiconductor layer and the outer wall of the cavity is tapered reversely.
