Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a user of error data without using a display device by changing the stop position of a carriage at every kind of error. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording apparatus consists of a key input means for supporting the practice of a plurality of functions of a recording apparatus, a key input judging means for judging the push-down state of a key due to the key input means, an error detection means for detecting various errors of the recording apparatus, and a carriage control means for stopping the carriage at a position different at every kind of the error of the recording apparatus in such a case that a key supporting error display is pushed down when the error is generated in the recording apparatus.
