Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for testing polarization maintaining optical fiber capable of testing a malfunction in the linkage of connectors. SOLUTION: In the method for testing polarization maintaining optical fiber, connectors 1a, 1b are mounted at both ends of a polarization maintaining optical fiber with connector 1. A polarizing azimuth angle variable means 2a that can arbitrarily vary the polarizing azimuth angle is set at one side connector 1a, and the polarizing property of a birefringent body in the connector 1a is compensated, and then a first extinction ratio of another connector 1b of the polarization maintaining optical fiber with connector 1 is measured. A polarizing azimuth angle variable means 2b that can arbitrarily vary the polarizing azimuth angle is set at the other connector 1b of the polarization maintaining optical fiber with connector 1, and the polarizing property of a birefringent body in the other connector 1b is compensated, and then a second extinction ratio of the other connector 1b of the polarization maintaining optical fiber with connector 1 is measured. Then, a comparison is made between the first extinction ratio and the second extinction ratio.
