Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon material having high ion adsorption capacity and producible at low raw material cost and low production cost by using a raw material composed mainly of pitch and carrying out the thermal reaction at a relatively low temperature. SOLUTION: The active polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon material composed mainly of carbon and hydrogen is characterized in that (1) the hydrogen/carbon atomic ratio is 0.05-0.5, (2) the specific surface area is >=1,500 m2/g by BET method and (3) the volume of fine pores having a diameter of 8-12 is >=0.2 mL/g by MP method.
