Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas meter and a gas leak detection method having high reliability, capable of accurately detecting gas leak with high likelihood by preventing detection of a false gas leak, even in the case where gas appliances are driven intermittently or in the case where pulsation caused by neighboring gas appliances is generated via common piping or the like, or the like. SOLUTION: A leak determination controlling part 161 determines a difference ΔQ, between the maximum value Qmax and a minimum value Qmin in each prescribed period of a flow rate value Q calculated by a flow operation part 162, and determines an average value Qave in each prescribed period of the flow rate value Q. Based thereon whether the detected flow rate value is caused by the gas leak is discriminated, and if the detection of the flow rate value caused by the gas leak continues for 30 days without interruption, determination of the existence of the gas leak can be made with high degree of certainty.
