PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable prevention of reducing a prescribed fuming preventing effect due to clogging because of an invasion of a slime, an algae or the like generated in an upper water tank into a passage for dry and wet air in association with a water level regulation of sprinkled water in the tank. SOLUTION: The upper water tank 11 for the crossflow type cooling tower A comprises many water sprinkling holes 10 opened at a bottom, a passage 12 for dry and wet air and a wet air passage 13 disposed adjacently in a width direction of an outdoor air intake port under the tank 11. The tank 11 has special purpose passage 13. A special purpose dry and wet air passage 12 for a small-sized water tank 14 is disposed independently from the tank 11 corresponding to the passage 12. The tank 11 is disposed as a single unit above all heat exchange coils 21 so as to surround the periphery of the tank 14. A sprinkling water supply unit 15 for the tank 11 and a sprinkling water supply unit 16 for the tank 14 are individually provided.
