Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the preparation of a 3-alkoxypropanol, comprising the heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of a 3-alkoxypropionaldehyde in an alcohol solution, which needs a catalyst in a minimized amount and by which a maximized conversion can be achieved in a small catalyst volume. SOLUTION: At least one metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, copper, silver, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, chromium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, ruthenium and/or platinum on an oxide carrier is used as a catalyst.
