METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONCATENATED ENCODING/DECODING COMMUNICATIONS SIGNAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform simple, flexible and effective encoding. SOLUTION: An outer coder 22 of a transmission station 12 encodes data streams and forms outer encoded data streams and an inner coder 26 applies an inner code, eliminates at least one bit from respective symbols for the data streams and achieves the desired data speed and encoding level. A puncture module 30 provides the punctured of many levels, so as to change the encoding level between heavy encoding and light encoding. Punctured encoded data are transmitted to a reception station 14 and decoded. The inner code may be a Nordstrom-Robinson code and an outer code is a Reed-Solomon code.
