Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of an active matrix type display device, and also to highly integrate the circuit thereof. SOLUTION: A holding circuit 110 for holding a video signal is arranged for each pixel, and the video signal is displayed by switching between a normal operation mode and a memory operation mode. By arranging the holding circuit 110 to be superimposed on a pixel electrode 17, and superimposing adjacent pixels on the circuit, a space factor of the circuit arrangement is improved and the circuit area of the holding circuit 110 is reduced. Especially, in a reflection type LCD, the arrangement of superimposing the holding circuit 110 on a reflecting display electrode 17 does not cause a decrease in an opening ratio due to the holding circuit, and the reflection type LCD can be made to be a display device of a higher opening ratio. Superposition of the holding circuit by two adjacent pixels makes it possible to arrange the circuit to be point- symmetric, and improves a design effect. Superposition of three adjacent pixels improves the space factor further.
