Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underwater level capable of improving the detection precision by measuring a pressure change by the crush of a communicating pipe and correcting it in the detection of the height position of a measuring surface in water by a device comprising a top cylinder connected to a detection cylinder through the communicating pipe, and dispensing with the use of a pressure resisting communicating pipe to reduce the cost of the device, and a working method using it. SOLUTION: In this height detecting method in water, the top cylinder 1 opened in the upper surface is connected to the pressure resisting detection cylinder 2 through the communicating pipe having a sectional area extremely smaller than the top cylinder 1, and a liquid 9 is injected into the top cylinder 1, the detection cylinder 2 and the communicating pipe 4 so as to cover the whole section of the top cylinder 1. A pressure sensor 6 is provided within the detection cylinder 2, the top cylinder 1 is set in a position having a known height, and the hydraulic pressure applied to the pressure sensor 6 is detected to detect the height difference with the top cylinder 1. A correcting pressure sensor 14 is provided in the vicinity of the top cylinder of the communicating pipe 4 so that the value of the pressure sensor 6 in the detection cylinder 2 can be corrected.
