PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially simple method by which the formation of a diadduct having a tertiary amine structure having low biodegradability is suppressed and N-carboxyalkyl-amino acids which are monoadducts having an excellent chelating ability and excellent biodegradability derived from a secondary amine structure are selectively produced when adding an acrylic, a methacrylic acid compound, etc., to an amino acid compound, etc. SOLUTION: This method for producing the N-carboxyalkyl-amino acids comprises a step of carrying out a reaction in the coexistence of a reaction raw material and ammonia in an aqueous medium.
