Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface illumination device eliminating such a phenomenon as to bring local brightness to the vicinity of an LED chip and the unevenness of luminance even if only the LED sheet is used and a lens sheet is deleted. SOLUTION: The light incidence surface 14 of a light guide plate 12 undergoes the incidence of light from the LED 20. The light is reflected off a side surface 26 and a light reflecting surface 18 and output from a light emitting surface 16. Light reflection patterns 34 are formed in the sections except a mirror part 18a at the peripheral edge of the surface 18. The patterns 34 are formed of the first pattern 34a having the first mean roughness (Rz1) in a semicircular section near the LED, the second pattern having the second mean roughness (Rz2) and prescribed width around the first pattern, and the third pattern having the third mean roughness (Rz3) in the remaining sections.
