Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure a good ink filling performance by enhancing the ink filling performance of a filter provided in the ink supply passage of an ink jet head. SOLUTION: The ink jet head comprises ink pressurization chambers 11 and nozzles 15 communicating with the ink pressurization chambers and forms an image by ejecting ink from the nozzles 15. The ink jet head is provided with ink supply channels 16, 17 and a filter 6 provided in the ink supply channels and an image is formed by applying a pressure to ink in the ink pressurization chambers 11 thereby ejecting ink drops from the nozzles 15. At the time of filling the ink pressurization chambers 11 of the ink jet head with ink, ink is supplied such that no air is left on the ink inflow side 16 of the filter 6. The filter 6 is held horizontally and the ink level in the chamber 16 is increased gradually so that the entire surface of ink touches the entire lower surface of the filter 6 simultaneously.
