Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pretreating method using a pretreating chemical for the surface of austenitic stainless steel prior to nitriding treatment by which a uniform nitride layer can be obtained without performing nitriding treatment at a high temperature for a long time and also without roughening the surface of the base material of the austenitic stainless steel, and to provide a surface treating method using the same pretreating method and also a nitride treated product. SOLUTION: By this pretreating method, the surface of austenitic stainless steel is immersed into a pretreating chemical composed of an alkali aqueous solution or alkali molten salt at a high temperature. The above surface treating method is applied, and the nitride-treated product is obtained thereby.
