Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and properly prevent the stalling of an engine without increasing the cost of a whole control system. SOLUTION: The method and system 10 is provided for controlling the coast- down of a vehicle. A base reference engine speed 28 is determined (26). A vehicle speed 14 is detected and a target engine speed 34 is created from the base reference engine speed 28 and the vehicle speed 14 (20). An actual engine speed 16 is detected and a desired throttle position is determined as a difference between the target engine speed 34 and the actual engine speed 16 (24). A desired spark advance 44 for the engine 12 is determined as a reference between the target engine speed 34 and the actual engine speed 16 (22).
