Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine and an excavating method, by which the size of cut-out and excavated materials to be excavated can be adjusted. SOLUTION: A pedestal 60-1 or the like, on which a preceding bit 72-1 and a succeeding bit 82-1 are fixed, is installed to a link 200. The link 200 is forwarded and retracted in the cross direction between preceding excavated ditches by a jack 220, and width between the preceding excavated ditches is adjusted, thus adjusting the size of cut-off and excavated materials to be excavated.
