PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the conventional conventional image pickup devices, having number of output pixels (areas) being 2 modes or more, that they cannot have detect image information with a proper range resulting in deteriorating detection accuracy, because the image pickup device cannot set the range for detecting image information required to operate major functions of a camera by each mode. SOLUTION: This invention realizes the image pickup device, that can enhance detection accuracy and improve the performance of major camera functions by setting the range of detecting image information, in response to the mode of number of outputted pixels (areas) and varying the detection range in response to the mode.
