Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light-emitting device which can prevent unevenness of luminance of a diffuse light emitting surface, especially the luminance of the end parts from decreasing. SOLUTION: The present invention comprises at least a casing 7 having a opening 7a, diffuse light emitting surface 6 disposed at the opening 7a of the casing 7, a plurality of cold-cathode discharge tubes 5 which are supported in the casing 7, lighting chambers 4 which are separately formed by partitioning the cold-cathode discharge tubes 5 with partition plates 3 and, among the lighting chambers 4, the width of lighting chambers 4a disposed at the end parts is formed more narrowly than that of the chambers 4 disposed except at the end parts.
