RESOLUTION CONVERTER AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resolution converter that can suppress occurrence of ringing and increase the resolution of an image without unsharpening the edges of the image. SOLUTION: An over-sample section 1 inserts interpolation pixel data between original pixel data adjacent to each other in image data to increase the number of pixels twice in both horizontal and vertical directions; resulting in 4 times in total. A nonlinear filter section 2 applies nonlinear filter arithmetic operation to output image data from the over-sampling section 1 by summing horizontal and vertical output components in forward/backward directions. A jaggy correction section 3 applies jaggy correction to image data outputted from the nonlinear filter section 2.
