Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a gas diffusion electrode superior in gas diffusion performance, mechanical strength and electrical conductivity, and its economical production method. SOLUTION: This gas diffusion electrode has a projecting stripes portion and a gas passage formed between the stripe portions formed on a plate portion. The electrode is manufactured using of a precursor consisting of the gas diffusion electrode and a paper-like body, whose projecting stripe portion and the plate portion constituted with the paper-like body made of carbon fibers with orientation for a part or its entirety have been separated structurally and the density of the stripe portion is lower at the central part than at the side portions, and non-carbonized matrix resin, and formed in the shape of gas electrode, followed by carbonization.
