METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DRIVING THERMAL HEAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a thermal head stably by controlling the timing for applying different pulses using a binary input thermal head thereby optimizing the print quality of a thermal sheet. SOLUTION: The thermal head driver comprises heaters R1-Rm of a thermal head for heating a matter to be printed thermally, and a heating control means 40 for heating the heaters R1-Rm at a plurality of different temperatures by applying pulses thereto. The heating control means 40 applies a first pulse for heating the heaters R1-Rm at a first temperature during one line period and a second pulse having a width different from that of the first pulse for heating the heaters R1-Rm at a second temperature during one line period wherein a time difference (|T01-T02|>0) of applying timing is set between first and second pulses.
