Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device constituted so that the structure of a device for making a transfer means approach to or separate from an image carrier is compact, the operation is easily and surely performed and a high-quality image is formed at a low cost. SOLUTION: This device is constituted of the image carrier 1 turning while carrying a formed toner image, a transfer means 2 transferring the toner image carried on the image carrier 1 to a body P to be transferred, a supporting means 3 separably supporting the transfer means 2 so as to approach to or separate from the toner image carrying surface 1a carrying the toner image of the image carrier 1 and a gear train 4 separably driving the supporting means 3 so as to approach to or separate from the surface 1a carrying the toner image of the image carrier 1 by varying the axle distance.
