PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extra length storing tray, for making effective use of a bundling string, a box for connecting optical fiber cables and a method for storing extra length of optical fibers. SOLUTION: This tray 8 for storing extra length of plural coated optical fibers 6 is equipped with a storing part S, in which a bundle 14 of plural coated optical fibers 6 bound with a string 13 is stored as individual coated optical fibers 6 in an unbundled state, and also equipped with a bundling string retainer 24 which is provided at the optical fiber introducing port 20 of the extra length storing part S and which keeps the tip end of the bundling string 13 removed from the bundle 14 of the optical fibers.
