Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the operation of a washing machine in such a manner that even if a child erroneously touches a start switch while a power switch is on, a washing operation will not be started if it is touched only slightly, and that even if a child falls into a washing/spin- drying basket, an accident can be prevented. SOLUTION: The method for controlling the operation of the washing machine includes turning the power switch on; setting the contents of the washing operation; and then turning a start switch on to start water feeding and allow the washing operation to progress automatically according to the set contents. A child lock setting means is provided so that when a child lock is set, the washing operation is not started even if the start switch is normally turned on.
