FIBROUS SOLID COTTON AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fibrous solid cotton suitable as a cushioning material or sound-absorbing material used in furniture or automotive internal trim materials or the like, easily producible at a low cost, and also excellent in soft feeling, insusceptibility to loss of bulkiness when used over a long period or in a high-temperature atmosphere, and heat distortion resistance. SOLUTION: This fibrous solid cotton comprises a main crimped fiber with a length of 1-10 mm and a crimped binder fiber with a length of 1-10 mm having a binder component having a melting or softening point >=20 deg.C lower than the melting point of a polymer constituting the main fiber. The other objective method for producing the fibrous solid cotton comprises the following process: constituent fibers are mixed together in an air flow, the resultant mixed fiber is then directly blown into a mold and the binder component is melted or softened under heating to effect molding the mixed fiber to a desired shape.
