Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy in recognition and that in discrimination of an object O (another car) by distinguishing the object from a road side structure or the like in detecting the distance data of the object O existing at a back side of a vehicle C and recognizing the object O on the basis of the detected distance data. SOLUTION: A new center of gravity of the object O is determined on the basis of the data existing on a line position adjacent to the outside in the width direction of the vehicle C with respect to a data missing line (or near the outside in the width direction) and the data existing on a line position on the central side in the width direction of the vehicle C with respect to the data missing line, among the data on the detecting positions existing within a predetermined range from the center of gravity, when the data massing line exists between two lines having the line data on the detecting positions existing within the predetermined range from the center of gravity determined in the last time, of the registered object O.
