Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back-light for a color liquid crystal display device arranged so that a light-emitting surface may not become reddish in an early lighting period. SOLUTION: A control circuit 14 for shortening a lighting pulse time of a rare gas discharge tube correspondingly to a rising characteristic of a cold cathode tube is arranged. Therefore, since the rare gas discharge tube and the cold cathode tube have relatively the same brightness even in an early lighting period, color is not unbalanced between the rare gas discharge tube and the cold cathode tube, and the light-emitting surface of the back-light does not become reddish but becomes white, this improves the appearance.
