Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silent chain having reduced collision noises generated between a link plate and a sprocket while maintaining the wear resistance and fatigue strength of the link plate. SOLUTION: The link plate 18 (20) of the silent chain 10 has a pair of forked tooth portions 22. Each of the tooth portions 22 consists of an inside flank face 24, an outside flank face 26, an inside thigh portion 28 and a tooth edge portion 30. The inside flank face 24 is provided with a relatively small smooth contact face 32 while the outside flank face 26 is provided with a relatively large smooth contact face 32. By starting meshing in a region where the occupancy of the smooth contact face is relatively small, noises generated between the link plate and the sprocket during collision can be reduced. By completing meshing in a region where the occupancy of the smooth contact face is relatively large, the wear resistance and fatigue strength can be improved.
