PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of retry in a disk recording/reproducing device. SOLUTION: A post processor 114 generates syndrome by using a parity bit in a modulation code bit line, and performs error detection/correction to output the syndrome to a vanishing position calculation circuit 121. The vanishing position calculation circuit 121 estimates an error byte position and the number of error byte pieces from the syndrome, and specifies decode operation of an RS decoder 122 to either one among error correction, vanishing correction and a corrective operation stop, according to large/small of the number of estimated error pieces. The RS decoder 122 doesn't decode an RS code language in a present sector when the corrective operation stop is specified, to output the regenerative data as it is. As the result, the retry due to a decode bad isn't performed.
