Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the start-up time of an optical recording and reproducing device which adjusts the focus state of a light beam so that a jitter of a reproduced signal becomes minimum by applying a bias voltage to a focus control system by eliminating the need for signal recording which is previously carried out on the record carrier. SOLUTION: The disklike record carrier 21 having the width and radial intervals of pits set to a specific ratios with respect to the spot size of a light beam for recording and reproduction is used to adjust the convergence state of the light beam on the record carrier so that a signal amplitude based upon the pits becomes maximum.
