Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for gear cutting work capable of preventing the oxidation of a work and a tool without using a cutting liquid and elongating the life of the tool. SOLUTION: A closing cover 23 capable of closing a space adjacent to a gear hob H and a work W is fixed and mounted on a side surface of a hob head 14. An incombustible gas supply device 25 is connected to the closing cover 23 through a piping 24, to allow the inside of the closing cover 23 to serve as a closed spaced S in the gear cutting work. By supplying the incombustible gas to the closed space S, the gear cutting work can be executed in the approximately anoxia atmosphere provided by the incombustible gas. Accordingly the gear hob H and the work W can be prevented from being cooled and oxidized by the supplied incombustible gas.
