Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can obtain read images of high quality, even if its image read operation is stopped temporarily. SOLUTION: When image read operation must be stopped temporarily, it is decided whether the current original feeding speed PMT is higher than a prescribed speed ΔPMT0. When the former speed is higher than latter one, it is decided that the speed PMT must be slowed down, and an original scanning speed setting part reads the slow-down data. A motor and a sensor drive circuit are controlled according to the slow-down data. The slow-down processing gradually slows down the motor speed and the image reading speed at time interval of t0' to t0. Thus, an original can be stopped gently at its positions Y0" to Y0.
