SOLUTION: The multi-component metal oxide is prepared by adding a solution containing the metals exclusive of the niobium and a solution containing the niobium to form a slurry including deposits containing the metals exclusive of the niobium and the niobium and firing the solid obtained by removing a solvent from the slurry. At this time, >=80% of the solution containing the niobium is added to the solution containing the metals exclusive of the niobium before the deposits are formed.
