MOVING SPINDLE TYPE VERTICAL MACHINE TOOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving spindle type vertical machine tool that prevents chips and the like from being scattered over and occupies a small installation area. SOLUTION: The moving spindle type vertical machine tool comprises a main spindle 2 with a vertical axis, a saddle 3 movable perpendicularly to the axis of the main spindle 2 in relation to a bed 7, and a headstock 4 movable in the axial directions of the main spindle 2 with respect to the saddle 3 and supporting the main spindle 2 for axial rotation thereof. The vertical machine tool is equipped with a splash guard 8 enclosing at least a machining region 11; a work holder 9 disposed in a work transfer region 12 adjacent to the machining region 11 and provided, at its place above the bed 7, with a transfer position 26 which is on the movement locus of the axis of the main spindle 2 and in which work W is transferred to and from a chuck 25 disposed at the lower end of the main spindle 2; an immovable cover 28 and a movable cover 29 for separating the machining and work transfer regions 11 and 12 when the saddle 3 is moved to position the main spindle 2 in the machining region 12; and a wiper 30.
