Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water leak preventing agent that can be applied to a leak simply and less laboriously without adversely affecting the appearance of a building, is excellent in the ability to stop a leak, and has good storage stability. SOLUTION: Provided are a water leak preventing agent comprising a highly water-absorbing polymer, an alkylene glycol derivative having 2C or higher repeating units, a gelling agent for the highly water-absorbing polymer, and an inhibitor against the decomposition of organic substances, and a water leak preventing material prepared by applying or impregnating the preventing agent to or into at least one member selected from the group consisting of a cord, a rope, a film, a sheet, a cloth, a nonwoven fabric, and paper.
