Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a microporous film whose electric resistance varies with a temperature and to provide a secondary battery separator that exhibits, especially, a shutdown function in such a manner that, as the temperature rises, the electric resistance rises in two stages from a relatively low temperature and is therefore safer than a conventional separator. SOLUTION: The microporous film is characterized in that, when its electric resistance is measured while its temperature is raised at a rate of 10 deg.C/min after being impregnated with an electrolyte solution, it requires a temperature rise of at least 10 deg.C upon an increase in its electric resistance from 1.5R to 10R (wherein R is the electric resistance at 100 deg.C), and the electric resistance increases from 10R to 100R upon a further temperature rise within 5 deg.C.
