INFORMATION PROCESSING TERMINAL DEVICE AND ITS FILE MANAGING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of a portable information processing terminal device and to make the capacity of a storage device large. SOLUTION: This portable information processing terminal device 10 has a disk drive 16 and secondary storage memories 17 as storage devices for storing files. A file system 18 executed on the portable information processing terminal device 10 decides whether or not there is the possibility of external power supply and automatically inhibits the disk drive 16 from being driven when deciding that there is not the possibility of the external power supply. In this case, the files on the disk drive 16 can not be used, but processing can be carried out by using files that the file system 18 has read in the secondary storage memory 17 from the disk drive 16. An increase in the power consumption of the disk drive 16 can, therefore, be suppressed. Both the lower power consumption and the large capacity of the storage device can be made compatible.
