PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reader with which a bar code and an electronic tag can be read by one scanner and can be suitably used corresponding to the purpose of use. SOLUTION: A dielectric plate 2 is laminated on the upside of a conductor ground plate 1, an antenna element 3 for electronic tag scanner is provided thereon, and circularly polarized wave generating elements 4a and 4b are formed on the outer periphery thereof while being inclined at 45 deg. in respect to a feeding point 5 and a line A-A through the center so as to be mutually confronted. On the conductor ground plate 1, a coaxial line 6 for feeding is mounted lower than the center and a central conductor 6a thereof is connected to the antenna element 3 and defined as the feeding point 5. A hole 7 is provided at the upper terminal part of the conductor ground plate 1 and the dielectric plate 2, namely, at the outside position of the antenna element 3 and a laser light emitting element 8 is provided inside this hole 7. A photodiode 9 is mounted at the central part of the conductor ground plate 1 and the dielectric plate 2, a hole 10 is formed at the central part of the antenna element 3 and reflected light from an object is made incident to the photodiode 9.
