Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a deoxidizer having practical oxygen absorption ability even in an atmosphere of low humidity wherein conventional deoxidizers are not functionable, generating no nasty smell and undetectable with a metal detector by including a carrier and activated magnesium supported on the carrier. SOLUTION: This deoxidizer is obtained by comprising (A) a carrier such as diatomite, zeolite or acid clay and (B) activated magnesium supported on the carrier wherein the activated magnesium is obtained by supporting a magnesium compound on the carrier and reducing or decomposing the compound (the supporting ratio is preferably 5-90 wt.%). The deoxidizer comprises the activated magnesium as principal ingredient and a water donor such as a water- absorbing resin as an auxiliary and is substantially free from magnetic material.
