Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To elongate the life of a trough for molten metal, stabilize operation and reduce defective product. SOLUTION: This trough 1A for molten metal is comprised of a first refractor layer 12 formed by castable refractory material having a runner 11 formed at its upper surface, a second refractory layer 14 formed by castable refractory material arranged outside at an area ranging from a bottom surface of the first refractory layer 12 to side surfaces, and an iron shell 17b enclosing an outer circumferential; surface except an upper surface of a laminated member formed by each of the layers. In this case, a ceramic fiber layer 13 is disposed between the first refractory layer 12 and the second refractory layer 14, the bottom surface of the first refractory layer 12 and the entire side surface are enclosed by the second refractory layer 14 through the ceramic fiber 13 and at the same time the first refractory layer 12 is formed of a plurality of divide pieces arranged, spaced apart in a longitudinal direction, and the secondary refractory layer 14 is held by the holding member 18 passed through the first thermal insulating layer 15 and fixed to the iron shell 17.
